Hockley G.C.
Set on the Downs adjacent to the M3 motorway, the Hockley GC is one of many
courses designed by James Braid. The club had undertaken a number of “in
house” improvements themselves but felt that a more professional approach
to design should be considered.
Green 10 - Three weeks after sowing
A
complete course audit was carried out which also included the suggestion of
a complete reconstruction of the 10th green. This green was barely 250 m2
in area and had only two reasonable pin positions on the entire putting surface.
Sadly the green was ruined by vandals and it was therefore agreed to reconstruct
and enlarge the green whilst retaining the “punch bowl” nature
of the original. The green was surveyed in detail in order to achieve this
and accurate contour plans – at 0.10metre intervals - were drawn up.
The green was reconstructed in 2004 and turfed and opened for play in 2005.
